MEET HEAD PONY COACH JEFF LING
JEFF LING
I am from Bedford, Pa which is about 1 ½ hours west of Harrisburg, PA. The only reason it is on the map is because it is an exit on the PA Turnpike. I grew up there and except for 6 months, I lived there all my life until I graduated. If you are wondering about the six months, I lived in Clearwater Beach, Florida.
I graduated from Bedford High School in June 1983. In High School, I played football and ran track. After graduating, I enlisted in the United States Air Force in August 1983.
I went to boot camp (Basic Training) at Lackland AFB, Texas. After boot camp, I attended technical school at Keesler AFB, MS (where I learned my job). My first duty station was Pease AFB (Portsmouth), New Hampshire. While at Pease, he served in a variety of positions. I first worked in the Base Information Management System, and then in the Publications Management branch. I was then picked to work for the 45th Air Division commander and work on two General Officer’s staffs. I provided all administrative support to the commander and his staff. In January 1991, I was assigned to Galena Airport, Alaska (near the North Pole). I first worked in the Civil Engineering flight, and then was selected to work for the base commander. From February 1992 to December 1995, I was station at the Special Operations School, Hurlburt Field (Ft Walton Beach), Florida. I got to work with Ambassadors, Senators, and General Officers and was responsible for providing support to 4,500 students a year and a staff of 46 instructors. I was then stationed (moved) to the 390th Intelligence Squadron, Kadena Air Base (Okinawa), Japan as the Commander's Executive Officer. I was also the functional manager (trainer) for 32 administrative and Computer personnel.
I was then assigned to the Harrisburg Military Entrance Processing Station, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania as the First Sergeant. I supervised 65 personnel responsible all facets of the daily operations of providing physicals, administering SAT like tests and qualifying over 30 thousand candidates for the Army, Navy, Air Force, US Marines and Coast Guard.
I retired from the Air Force after 25 years in March 2008 and started a new career with the Defense Logistics Agency, working in the Human Resources department in April 2008.
I have been married to my wife Stacy for 16 years and we have one son, Joshua, age 13. I am also the Youth Director (along with my wife) at the Baughman United Methodist Church in New Cumberland, Pa.
I have helped coach football for a total of 11 years. That includes Smurf football up to being a head coach of an Air Force intramural team. I was a certified High School Football official in both the state of Florida and New Hampshire. I refereed football games for a total of 5 years. In addition, I have helped coach baseball teams and soccer.
